AIMED Point Shooting or P&S For Self Defense

P&S

I just got banned.

On 8/31/06 I was informed that I had been banned from a well known firearms discussion forum.

Below is the rationale given for that, and my response.

The rationale clearly shows that there is a belief by many in the gun community that unless one can show via participation in range games that a shooting method works, it just won't work in a gunfight.

It's either game it, or forget it!

Little or no weight is given to the scientific inquiries and stats and studies related to real life threat close quarters situations.

The thread was titled: Why Teach Sight Shooting first?

Subject: Your posting priveleges at The High Road have been revoked.

Hi Joe-

We've opted to remove your posting priveleges at The High Road, owing to the fact that your continuous advocation of bizarre point-shooting techniques are completely outside of the realm of any sort of actual, effective shooting technique. You have failed to demonstrate the usefulness of your methods in anything even remotely approaching the real world, and the few times you actually go to the range and practice your technique, the results you post on the website are what I could only describe as abysmally poor and mark you, or anyone who uses your methods as a danger to those around them.

We at The High Road cannot accept a member who blithely flies in the face of logical, and proven shooting methods, and advocates replacing practicing with a mentality of pointing a pistol in the general direction of a target and yanking the trigger as quickly as possible.

As a result, we have removed your account.

I have no doubt that you will spin this with a claim that the "establishment" is trying to suppress your brilliant advances in combat handgun techniques.

I will only go so far as to note that you have failed to demonstrate your technique on an actual range, against either the clock or other shooters, and still the results that you champion so loudly are what I can charitably describe as dangerously ill-advised.

Good luck in your endeavors. If you would put half the time into actually practicing traditional handgun techniques that you put into advocating your point-shooting methods, you would no doubt be an admirable pistol shot.

Regards,

Justin

Hi Justin,

I was in my garage this AM and tossing and shooting pop cans in the air. And using an airsoft pistol and P&S, I hit 8 in a row. FYI, there is a short video on my site showing me shooting at and hitting aerials (pop cans thrown in the air) - (you can hear the "doink" sound of the hits). You should try it if you think it is easy.

It is most difficult to do, however, P&S makes it doable and consistently so.

Plan to add your and these my comments to my site with proper attribution, as info for those who may have thoughts about PS, and how they can expect to be treated in the world of the gun,if they try PS and find that it works for them.

You are welcome to add them to the latest thread in question.

As I have said in the past: based on police studies and stats, and scientific investigation, those who teach the average person or police officer to use Sight Shooting in CQ life threat situations, are setting their charges up to be shot and/or killed. And I believe they should be charged with reckless endangerment, and/or an accessory to attempted murder or murder if one of their charges is shot and/or killed.

And that applies to those, who based on opinion rather than facts and documentation, like that which is found on my site, squelch and stifle innovative ways and means that can help or lead the way in improving the survival chances of police officers and law abiding others who may have or plan to use a firearm as a means of self defense.

..........

As a side note, just got an e-mail from PayPal that someone just paid me the standard amount (about 10 bucks), to send them 3 "test" P&S shooting aids for affixing to a gun.

Best regards,

John Veit

John-

If your technique was so fantastic, people would be winning competitions with it.

End of story.

Feel free to post my message on your website, with proper attribution.

Suffice it to say that neither of us is going to budge on this issue, and the little games you play with airsoft guns in your garage have even less bearing on a real gunfight than the most lacadaisically conducted IDPA match.

I'd challenge you to a head-to-head competition, but for the fact that I know you'd turn it down.

Do not contact me again.

Quite Sincerely,

Justin

Ironically, the thread I started which apparently was the last straw, and led to my banning, had 106 responses and 2066 views as of Oct 4, 2006. Those are very big numbers in regard to any thread. The thread title is: Why Teach Sight Shooting first?

I reread the thread in 3/08, and it still is an excellent discussion on why one should learn point shooting first and that it is very easy to learn.

Here is a link to it

Here is a portion of an unsolicited email received 10/16/04: "....I do not understand the rational of TheHighRoad and why they are taking the "LOWROAD" in banning your thoughts and ideas; a modified version of your P&S was taught to us in the Marines for shooting at night (this was long before night vision sights). Keep up the good work, there are a lot of us behind you...."

Lsstly, in a recent thread on Warrior talk on the 3/4 hip position..., one participant called me a fraud, and another kept up his past abusive criticism of me and P&S.

In effect they called those (including police), who have sent me comments that they have tried P&S and that it works, liars. And so it goes in polite world of the gun. :-)
