WHAT TYPE OF SHOOTING IS BEING TAUGHT?

I read recently on the web that the NYPD only teaches Sight Shooting (the use of the sights to aim and shoot with). And as such, some type of Point Shooting (shooting without the use of the sights), is not taught for use at night or Close Quarters.

(CQ = about 7 yards or less.)

I also have read that some PD/Agencies teach both Sight Shooting and Point Shooting.

As Point Shooting and Sight Shooting are often discussed and debated at length on the web, I think that many in both the police and civilian arenas would be interested in learning about what type of shooting is taught in PD/Agencies.

So I asked some PD's and Agencies via e-mail and web boards, to respond to the questions below. Their responses follow the questions.

I also have made other contacts and researched the web and found additional sources such as POST standards that directly impact this subject area. That info follows the answers to the questions.

The data is rapidly aging and limited.
